I love summer. The long days, warm breezes and patio dates are what my favourite memories are made of. But as someone who’s prone to frizzy curls and a sweaty complexion, sometimes I feel like a (literally) hot mess by the end of the day. Thankfully, I’ve finally nailed down the perfect summer beauty products to battle even the steamiest days. The best part? Every product is under $10.

Best products for beachy waves
Before any other product, I use a good leave-in treatment when my hair is still damp to keep my curls soft. Pantene Expert Collection Dry Defy Velvet Creme Infusion is a great option. Then I use TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam for some extra oomph. For a second (or third) day lift, use dry shampoo. It’s especially good for adding extra volume to wavy hair. My favourite has always been the OG Batiste.
Best treatment for a worn-out ‘do
When I first tried Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum, I wasn’t expecting much. I’ve tried a lot of “miracle” treatments that didn’t help much. But this treatment actually made quite a difference even after one use. I applied a good amount on damp hair and braided it overnight. My locks felt super smooth and silky in the morning.
Best lightweight moisturizer with SPF
Even when it’s cloudy, UVA rays can cause damage. I like Olay Complete All Day UV Lotion for Combination/Oily Skin. You only have to use a small amount and the formula absorbs into skin fast. Always apply SPF under foundation (not just in the summer months).
Best foundation for a glowy-but-not-too-shiny complexion
My latest favourite is CoverGirl Stay Luminous Foundation, part of the new summer collection. It comes in liquid form, which I usually steer clear of in the warmer months because of my shiny complexion. But the formula blends well and stays on all day.
Best highlighter for a natural sun-kissed glow
Highlighter does wondrous things. I just use a little bit of Flower Glisten Up Highlighter Chubby on my cheekbones whenever I feel like I want a dewy look. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to being a fairy.
Best liner for a badass cat-eye
Nothing makes me feel more fierce than a well-done wing tip. NYC High Definition Liquid Eyeliner is a steal and it gets the job done flawlessly. I also like to use Rimmel Scandal’Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in Sparkling Black on nights out for some extra glam.
Best waterproof mascara
Waterproof mascara is key in the summertime. Whether you’re hitting the pool or not, if will keep product from falling beneath your eyes by the end of the day. I’ve been a fan of CoverGirl LashBlast since I tried the original product. This summer, I’m loving the waterproof Full Lash Bloom Mascara. You can apply one coat for a natural look or build it up to give more of a dramatic effect. And it stays on all day with no smudging.
I haven’t tried the waterproof version, but I’ve also always liked L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Million Lashes mascara, too.
Best brow tamer
I’m in the middle of growing out my eyebrows right now, and let me tell you, it’s not a pretty process. But using a tinted brow gel definitely helps. I use Maybelline New York Brow Drama Mascara every day as part of my routine.
When I have a bit more time, I
like Flower Beauty Take A Brow palette. It comes with a wax, so it gives even more control over unruly eyebrows.
Best bright & bold lips
I live for a bold lip and this summer, there are a ton of options to play with. Maybelline New York Lip Studio Color Blur lipstick in Berry Misbehaved is a nice punch of deep pink and CoverGirl Outlast Longwear Lipstick in Vixen Violet is a pretty light purple. Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Shameless is a rich tone of purple. All of the budget-friendly brands are introducing purple shades and I can’t get enough.
